Hi all!
We’re currently in the midst of the final push towards launching the first version of Viatribe 2.0. The final result should be online by Friday evening!
In the meantime I’ve created a Twitter account for us, to keep in touch with users, friends, and curious observers!Follow the action at Viatribe HQ at: http://twitter.com/viatribe

- Answers to your Questions
Greetings all!
Over here at Viatribe HQ we’re all typing in a frenzy, working on 2.0 and slowly transforming Viatribe into an irresistible hub of creativity. In the meantime, I just wanted to let you all know I’ve added a few answers to our FAQ page which had up until now remained a lonely questionless desert. From the feedback I’ve been receiving I can see there are a few things that some of you would like to know about… so here are the answers!
Q: How is the ranking calculated?
A: The ranking is a complex concoction taking into consideration the date you joined Viatribe, the ratings you’ve received, how many reviews you’ve posted, how often you post them. Basically this means that you can’t just write a few great articles, receive unbelievable ratings, and expect to keep your top spot forever! We’ve made it this way to keep our writers active and involved… the more you use Viatribe the better your ranking will be!
Q: Sometimes when I search for a venue, it doesn’t show up in the search results - even though I know it’s there!
A: In the current version of Viatribe, you can search using venue name or city/town. This means that at the moment you can’t search by country, or words in the article for example. However, even if you’re not sure of the name of the city the venue is located in, or the exact spelling of the venue, you can write a few letters in the search box and all venues with those letters will display, giving you some hints for what you may be looking for!
- A bit of love from Matador Pulse
Matador Pulse - a news and information network for travelers, has given us a mention in one of their newest articles called “Beyond Travelocity: The Brave New World of Online Travel Guides”.
We’re thrilled to get some love from such a great site like Matador, and I can’t wait to welcome all the new users coming over from there. We’re looking forward to reading your work!
Ooh one more thing - in the article Eva Holland writes that there’s “payment involved” in being a user at Viatribe. Yes… we are planning on rewarding our writers, but no… unfortunately we will not be sending any wads of cold hard cash to any of you anytime soon. It’s a bit more complicated and frankly, a lot more exciting than that!
And yes, details are a “little vague”… that’s because I’m keeping it all a secret for now!
Just hold onto your seats! Viatribe 2.0 is just a few weeks away, and we fully expect you all to be blown away!
Read the full article here .
Much love from Viatribe HQ + ciao for now!
- First set of writer rewards on their way!
Next week we will be announcing the first set of rewards for our hardest working writers.
I can’t say quite yet what it will be but here are a few hints: it’s wearable, and it’s personalized… Hmm…
The rewarding of prizes will be based on the quantity of reviews you have written, not necessarily their ratings. So even if you’re not the world’s next Dickens, you still have a good shot at getting your hands on a prize as this time we’re just into rewarding you for your hard work.
And don’t forget - this is not just a one off. In fact we plan on regularly awarding our top writers with incentives to keep you at eachothers throats! Yeah, we’re just that cruel!!
And the incentives will just keep getting bigger and better…
Watch this space for more details soon to come!
- Viatribe 1.0 released into the wild…
Finally, after so many months of work, our first version of Viatribe is complete and bug-free.
We couldn’t be more happy to see everything finally ready to be realeased into the wild.
In the last couple of weeks we have finished off 1.0 with:
-personal profile enhancements
-mini-profiles for each author and blog headlines (yay!) on every article’s page
-a complete footer with all those necessary thingies (read our about us, it’s interesting!)and most importantly…
a bug-free environment (well, as far we can tell!)
We have to admit though, the last week or so has been spent exclusively on appeasing Internet Explorers 6 & 7. Phew! It should work perfectly fine there now… though of course it doesn’t look nearly so pretty as it does on Firefox or Safari! If you do end up finding any bugs and feel like torturing us a bit (don’t worry, we love it… yes, we’re like that) send us some feedback.
In fact, if you have anything at all to say about Viatribe 1.0, let us know! Whether it be bugs, or something you’d like to see working a bit differently - give us a shout at our feedback section. If you need help with anything, let us know too. We’ve got a help section set up specifically for that, and we need your help to compile a nice FAQ. Yep… we haven’t been able to think of a FAQ yet as we seriously can’t even find anything difficult about using our site. Hah!
We’re actually already deep into the development of Viatribe 2.0, so any ideas for improvements or new features you’d like to see there are welcome too! So far we’ll be adding new functionalities such as personal messaging, ability to create and join groups, sharing options, a beautiful new browse page, and of course… a gorgeous new design! Keep your eyes peeled for sneak peeks, which I’m sure I won’t be able to risist posting here soon!
In the meantime, see you at Viatribe 1.0!
- We’re on Facebook!
Today while browsing the so-called internets, I came across this wonderful tool- iWidgets
It’s a place where you can relatively easily make your own widgets for blogs, social networking sites, and portals like iGoogle.
Of course we got excited by the idea of seeing our hard work displayed on our Facebook profiles, so what else did we do than make a cute little widget straight away!
Here’s what we came up with:
The Viatribe widget looks like this on my Facebook profile… pretty nice, eh?
Now I can keep track of all the newest posts and be totally up to date!

- Viatribe 1.0 is just around the corner…
Here at Viatribe HQ, we’ve been working our buns off to finish up what we’re calling Viatribe 1.0.
We’re hoping to clear out all the little bugs and add a few extra touches ASAP. I’d love to put a date on it, but as I type our head programmer is sniffling his way through some code. Let’s hope he gets better soon and we can get back on track! Otherwise we’ll have to quarantine him… in the closet with your iMac!
Obviously I’m joking… Ahem.
Only a few more days, I’m sure, and we’ll have our first finished Viatribe specimen. See you then!
